The Old Ones
“This world is older than any of you know. Contrary to popular mythology, it did not begin as a paradise. For untold eons demons walked the Earth. They made it their home, their… their Hell. But in time they lost their purchase on this reality. The way was made for mortal animals, for, for man. All that remains of the Old Ones are vestiges, certain magics, certain creatures…”-Rupert Giles, Member of the Watchers
Of these ancient creatures, there were some that had become so immensely powerful that they were worshiped as Gods, even after the banishment of the Old Ones. By now, the Old Ones are forgotten by nearly all, with only a handful of followers in secretive places, and here and there a religious or arcane order that has some mention of them in esoteric tomes.
Even now, unless they are being actively worshiped, mention of the Old Ones even in books is severely limited, for fear that they may seep back into the world somehow. To Mortals, names are given freely, but to a creature such as an Old One, a name holds power.
Because of this, they are rarely mentioned by name, and instead given titles, or even better, descriptions.
Two of these creatures have become known to the Party. Mantorok and Chattur’gha.
